__BREEDERS’ CUP POSSIBLE FOR CHILLINGWORTH WINNER ONE MAGIC PHILLY __

Trainer Phil D’Amato reported that both of his graded stakes winners Saturday at Santa Anita, One Magic Philly and Hang the Moon, were doing well Sunday morning and each could run in the Breeders’ Cup Nov. 2 at Del Mar.

Hang the Moon’s upset win in the GII Rodeo Drive provided a fees-paid berth to the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf going 1 3/8 miles. The hope is she’ll be in the starting gate.

“She paid her way. If she continues to train well, that’s where we’ll go,” D’Amato said Sunday morning.

One Magic Philly, a 3-year-old, won the GIII Chillingworth Stakes under Anotnio Fresu in her fourth start and first against stakes company. In the 6 ½-furlong dirt sprint for fillies and mares, the Good Magic filly engaged Grade I winner Sweet Azteca from the opening bell, put away that rival near the quarter pole, and went on to win comfortably by 2 ¾ lengths.

“We expected it would be a smaller field and were hoping she would run well,” D’Amato said. “It just worked out that our filly broke sharp and was right on top of (Sweet Azteca). She was able to pressure her and win the battle.”

D’Amato added the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint is being considered for One Magic Philly.

“We’ll see. We either will point to the Breeders’ Cup or wait for the La Brea,” D’Amato said.

The La Brea is a Grade I, seven-furlong sprint for fillies and mares traditionally run on opening day of the Santa Anita Classic Meet Dec. 26.

A homebred for John Gallegos, One Magic Philly graduated in her second start going 6 ½ furlongs at Del Mar Aug. 3. She returned in a first-level allowance at Del Mar, also going 6 ½ furlongs, and aired by seven lengths on Sept. 1.

“She trained well from the get-go, and we thought she had some promise,” D’Amato said. “We figured she could win a maiden special weight. She did, and from there she’s just continued to get stronger and stronger.”

As for Hang the Moon, she rallied from last under Kazushi Kimura to win the 1 ¼-mile Rodeo Drive by 1 ¼ lengths. A 4-year-old Uncle Mo filly owned by CJ Thoroughbreds, Hang the Moon made her first eight starts outside of California while trained by Michael Stidham. She was stakes-placed last year.

According to D’Amato, Hang the Moon was transferred to him for one specific reason.

“CJ Thoroughbreds thought she would like the firmer ground out here,” D’Amato said. “She had been running in some pretty good races back east and in the Midwest. They turned her out with the idea when they bring her back, let’s get her on the firmer California surfaces.”

Hang the Moon won a second-level allowance at Del Mar in her first start for D’Amato in June. After finishing second in the one-mile Osunitas Stakes at Del Mar, she used another last-to-first rally to earn her first stakes win in the GII John Mabee Sept. 7 at Del Mar.

“She’s taken to the firmer surfaces and has just continued to develop,” D’Amato said.

MCCARTHY: ‘EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE WELL’ WITH SWEET AZTECA

Things did not go as planned for Grade I winner Sweet Azteca and trainer Michael McCarthy in Saturday’s GIII Chillingworth Stakes for female sprinters. Sent off the 1-9 favorite on a hot and muggy day at Santa Anita, Sweet Azteca took pressure on the lead from eventual winner One Magic Philly and then faltered late to finish last.

On Sunday, McCarthy reported all appeared well with Sweet Azteca.

“She seems to be doing OK this morning,” he said. “I think the heat may have got to her a little bit yesterday.”

A 4-year-old gray or roan filly by Sharp Azteca, Sweet Azteca has won 5-of-7 starts and earned $487,200 for owner-breeder Pamela C. Zeibarth. She previously won the GI Beholder Mile at Santa Anita in March, the GII Great Lady M in track-record time at Los Alamitos in July and the GIII Rancho Bernardo at Del Mar Aug. 25.

McCarthy indicated a start in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint Nov. 2 at Del Mar remains likely for Sweet Azteca.

“First we’ll see how she is over the next few days. But by all accounts, everything seems to be well,” McCarthy said.

WORKS: BREEDERS’ CUP PROSPECTS DRILL FOR O’NEILL Mixto, winner of the GI Pacific Classic Aug. 31 for trainer Doug O’Neill, continued to train up to the Breeders’ Cup Classic Sunday with a five-furlong work completed n 1:00.60.

The drill was Mixto’s fourth since earning his first stakes win in the 1 ¼-mile Pacific Classic Aug. 31. Following the victory, O’Neill said Mixto would not start again until the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, also contested at 1 ¼ miles at Del Mar, on Nov. 2.

A 4-year-old Good Magic colt, Mixto won the Pacific Classic by a half length under Kyle Frey at odds of 22-1. Owned by Calumet Farm, Mixto is 14: 2-2-4 with $782,180 in earnings.

Also working Sunday for O’Neill were Breeders’ Cup Sprint prospects Raging Torrent and Anarchist. Raging Torrent, a 3-year-old who beat older in the GII Pat O’Brien Aug. 24 at Del Mar, worked five furlongs in 1:01.00. While the Pat O’Brien was a “Win and You’re In” for the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, O’Neill has said he prefers to keep the Maximus Mischief colt around one turn and would point to the six-furlong Sprint rather than Dirt Mile.

Anarchist worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds. It was his third work since shipping to Seoul and running third in the GIII Korea Sprint Sept. 8.

It goes as the fourth race at approximately 2:30 p.m. PT. The Zuma Beach goes as the eighth race at approximately 4:30 p.m. Iron Man Cal, also trained by D’Amato with Fresu up, is a lukewarm 3-1 favorite in a field of eight…Jockey Kazushi Kimura bagged a pair of stakes wins Saturday with last-to-first rallies on longshots. The Rodeo Drive is a “Win and You’re In” for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf Nov. 2 at Del Mar…Saturday’s $2 Pick Six paid $22,434 for four winning tickets…Following Sunday’s card, live racing will resume Friday at Santa Anita.
