Graded Winner Medoro Leads A Competitive Field Of 12 Set To Go In The Grade III, $100,000 Autumn Miss Stakes

10/24/2024

GRADED WINNER MEDORO LEADS A COMPETITIVE FIELD OF 12 SET TO GO IN THE GRADE III, $100,000 AUTUMN MISS STAKES FOR 3-YEAR-OLD FILLIES AT ONE MILE ON TURF

ARCADIA, CA (Oct. 24, 2024)—Medoro, a three-time stakes winner at Santa Anita for trainer Peter Eurton, headlines a field of 12 3-year-old fillies set go one mile on turf in Sunday’s Grade III, $100,000 Autumn Miss Stakes at Santa Anita. Sunday is closing day of the Santa Anita Autumn Meet.

Medoro is back at her favorite track after coming up just short in a pair of graded stakes at Del Mar. In the GII San Clemente at a mile on turf in July, Medoro finished third, 1 ¼ lengths behind winner Iscreamuscream. A month later in the GI Del Mar Oaks at 1 1/8 miles, Medoro was second behind Iscreamuscream, this time losing by 1 ½ lengths. With Iscreamusceam not entered, and a return to Santa Anita, Medoro is likely to be the post time favorite.

By Honor Code, Medoro will have regular rider Antonio Fresu in the irons. She is 6: 4-1-1 with $300,600 in earnings for owner C R K Stable.

Top trainer Phil D’Amato has two entered, Circle of Trust and Asean, who will be making her first start since last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.

Circle of Trust was a no-threat seventh in the Del Mar Oaks, but prior to that she won the GIII Honeymoon at 1 1/8 miles in June at Santa Anita. The Union Rags filly also was third, beaten just three-quarters of a length by Medoro in the GIII Providencia in April. She will be ridden by Umberto Rispoli for the first time since her debut in October 2023.

Owned by James E. Downey, Circle of Trust is 8: 2-0-1 with $120,060 in earnings.

Asean, a stakes winner imported from Ireland, finished 11th in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint when trained by Donnacha O’Brien. She has worked eight times since late August for her sophomore bow. By Ten Sovereigns, Asean is 8 2-1-2 with $39,556 in earnings. She is owned by Commonwealth Thoroughbreds, Ocean Reef Racing and William Campbell. Asean will be ridden by Kazushi Kimura.

Set to make her local bow for trainer Richard Mandella is Mixologist, who was previously based in the east with trainer Brad Cox. By Frosted, Mixologist most recently was sixth in the GIII Jockey Club Oaks at Aqueduct on Sept. 14. She is 4: 2-0-0 with $132,260 in earnings for owner LNJ Foxwoods. Hall of Famer Mike Smith has the call on Mixologist.
