ANYWHO WHEELS BACK IN SUNDAY’S $100,000 DESERT STORMER STAKES FOR OLDER FILLIES AND MARES AT 6 FURLONGS ON DIRT

ARCADIA, CA (May 30, 2024)—Anywho, who shipped to Churchill Downs two weeks ago and romped in a second-level allowance sprinting, wheels back for trainer John Sadler in Sunday’s $100,000 Desert Stormer Stakes for older fillies and mares at six furlongs on dirt at Santa Anita.

Anywho aired by eight lengths when going six furlongs on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs May 17. It was her first start since last September when she was off the board in the GIII Torrey Pines going a mile at Del Mar.

A 4-year-old Bolt d’Oro filly, Anywho will be ridden by Antonio Fresu for the first time. She is seeking her first stakes win for owner Hronis Racing. Anywho is 6: 3-1-0 with $201,670 in earnings.

South American import Richi will be making her first U.S. start. Trained by Bob Baffert, Richi was a multiple Group 1 winner in her native Chile. The 4-year-old Practical Joke filly is owned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holding Inc. and Stud Vendaval Inc.

Richi, who in Chile was 9: 6-2-0 with $98,424 in earnings, will have Juan Hernandez in the irons. She has worked nine times since March 10 for her domestic unveiling.

Lightly raced fillies Delitefull Hart and Princess of Time each enter off first-level allowance wins sprinting on dirt Delitefull Hart, trained by Mike Puype, scored as the even-money favorite when coming from off pace in her allowance win going 6 ½ furlongs April 4 at Santa Anita. It was just her third start and first since last June.

A 4-year-old by Outwork, Delitefull Hart is owned by Paymaster Racing and Slugo Racing. She won her debut at 6 ½ furlongs last May at Santa Anita and then was third in a first-level allowance sprinting in June before heading to the sidelines.

Delitefull Hart will be ridden by Mike Smith, who has been aboard for all three previous starts.

Princess of Time, trained by Michael McCarthy, went gate-to-wire when beating allowance foes by 1 ½ lengths when going six furlongs here March 1. It was just her third start and second following a nearly 11-month layoff. In her comeback effort Jan 28 at Santa Anita, Princess of Time beat maidens in gate-to-wire fashion going six furlongs on dirt.

A 4-year-old by Not This Time, Princess of Time is owned by Mike Rutherford. She will be ridden by Jeremy Laprida.

Stakes winners Chismosa and Tom’s Regret are also part of the seven-horse field. Chismosa returns to dirt after three straight stakes tries sprinting on the hillside turf course for trainer Rafael DeLeon. On Jan. 1, Chismosa won the GIII Las Flores going six furlongs on dirt at Santa Anita. Her only other dirt effort this year was a runner-up finish in the GII Santa Monica going seven furlongs Feb. 3.

A 4-year-old California-bred by Clubhouse Ride, Chismosa is 17: 4-3-4 with $441,750 in earnings for owner Jamie R. Renella.

Tom’s Regret will be making her second start following a 10-month layoff. In her comeback effort May 11 at Santa Anita, which came at six furlongs on Santa Anita’s flat turf course, Tom’s Regret finished second after dueling on the lead.

Tom’s Regret is trained by Steve Miyadi and will have regular rider Kyle Frey in the irons. As a 2-year-old in 2022, the Tom’s Tribute filly won the Kentucky Juvenile Stakes on the Kentucky Derby undercard at Churchill Downs. Tom’s Regret is 9: 3-5-1 with $306,073 in earnings for owners Cinema Thoroughbreds, Victor M. Flores, Eugene Zondlo, et al.
