SANTA MARGARITA STAKES QUOTES
COREY NAKATANI, LET FAITH ARISE, WINNER: “She’s a very willing filly and she’s kept going forward for Jerry (Hollendorfer) and Dan (Ward). She’s showed a few good races (going around two turns) and Jerry thought it may have been quick back into her most recent race but she’s been training well coming into this race and she only kept getting better. I’m just glad to be a part of it. She tries so hard every time and you know she’ll give you her all.”
JOE TALAMO, IOTAPA, SECOND: “It was an absolutely perfect trip. I was a knock off the winner the whole way. We just got outrun today.”
JERRY HOLLENDORFER, LET FAITH ARISE, WINNER: “He (Corey Nakatani) got off good and stayed there, so that was the right thing to do. We didn’t really expect to be on the front end, but since she broke well, Corey let her run and keep running. That was the right decision, obviously. It was pretty hard to take back when she got the lead easy.
“It’s good to win a Grade I with her. We’ll regroup here and pick another race. It might be here or might be back east.”
TOM STULL OF TOMMY TOWN THOROUGHBREDS, OWNER OF LET FAITH ARISE, WINNER: “It’s fantastic. This would be ranked top three (in our racing career,) probably top one (actually.) This is our first Grade I win so it’s pretty nice to get this, finally. I was emotional when they were coming down the stretch. The three of them were hooked up and you just knew something had to give. I thought the seven (Iotapa) might keep going but (Let Faith Arise) just dug in and kept going. They’re fun.”
NOTES: The winning owner/breeder is Tom Stull of Santa Ynez, who races as Tommytown Thoroughbreds, LLC.
