JULIEN LEPAROUX, SKY HIGH GAL, WINNER: “It (the pace scenario) didn’t go exactly to plan; she was sharp right away, and a little keen before the first turn. She relaxed very well on the backside though. She got a little tired today but she showed a lot of heart, tried the whole way.”

JOE TALAMO, SCARLET STRIKE, SECOND: “It was close, I was hoping we had a good (head) bob; it’s unfortunate. She handled her first time on turf great, handled it real well. We were able to get a good, ground-saving trip. Then, when she got through the last part, we just got outrun.”

JOHN SADLER, SKY HIGH GAL, WINNER: “We bought her as a replacement for Lady of Shamrock for the 3-year-old filly series and Lady of Shamrock started off in this race last year (winning it), so hopefully, history repeats itself.”

Asked if he thought she won: “Outside post, she got pulling harder than we really wanted. Nothing really went right and she still won anyway. She’s got a lot of potential. She’s going to get a lot better as we get a little further into it. We’ll keep her on the grass here for a while and then look at synthetic maybe a little later on.

“I really thought the speed would develop in front of her and she’d tuck in and sit about fourth or fifth. I was surprised that she was laying up close.”

WINNING OWNER KOSTA HRONIS: “We won the Blue Norther last year, so we got to defend our title. We’re hoping Sky High Gal can follow in the footsteps of Lady Shamrock. We started (as an owner) in February of 2010. John Sadler does the shopping (when asked how they decided to buy her); I just follow along with the basket. We let him decide those things and we’re very blessed to have John and his expertise to look for horses for us.”

NOTES: The winning owner is Kosta Hronis of Delano, CA.
