PATRICK VALENZUELA, ISMENE, WINNER: “I worked her at Del Mar and she worked very well for me down there. I knew she would pop the first time out. She’s a Cal-bred and today she ran against some good fillies. She sure did her thing today.”
When asked about trainer Bill Spawr’s directions to take a hold of her at the start: “She broke so good you’ve got to call an audible when those things happen. I did take a hold of her anyways and waited maybe one run out with her, but unfortunately she was on the lead, but it was fortunate for me.”

JOEL ROSARIO, SISTER MOON, 1-5 FAVORITE, SECOND: “She broke a little bit slow but the winner was really fresh . . . really quick out of the gate . . . It was the first time for my filly on the dirt.”

BILL SPAWR, ISMENE, WINNER: “She’s the real deal. I told him (Patrick Valenzuela) to take her back and make one run, but we have P. Val, so . . . He said, ‘I did take her back and make one run, but we were on the front.’ . . . We’re just giving her time and letting her mature because I think she could be special.”

NOTES: The winning owner Stephen Ferraro is from Sierra Madre.
