LAS FLORES HANDICAP QUOTES, SUNDAY, APRIL 5TH, 2009
AARON GRYDER, SWEET AUGUST MOON, WINNER: “She’s always been such a big filly and it looks like now that her ability is catching up to her size. I had a lot of respect for High Resolve, she’s run well here and she was coming off a big race in Florida. It looked to me like she was the lone speed and I was hoping Mike (Smith, aboard Coco Belle) could put some pressure on her from the outside. It was just enough pressure and we were able to take advantage of it. Around the turn, I kept my filly off the rail because she's got such a long stride and she was moving beautifully out there. Once I got her outside turning for home, she really accelerated well.”
BRIAN KORINER, SWEET AUGUST MOON, WINNER: “She was very sharp today and a little closer than I thought she’d be . . . He (Aaron Gryder) got her on the outside and made a big run. She’s matured and really good right now. This (Pro-Ride) track helps, because off-the-pace horses have been having a little advantage, but I don’t know if today they did have any advantage. The track seemed fast today. When it gets hot, it gets fast. Her races have been a month apart. It would be nice to give her two months (before her next race).”
NOTES: The winning owners are Peter Parrella of Chino, who races as Legacy Ranch, and Shirley McPherson (Team McPherson) of Irvine.
