JOCKEY QUOTES

JOEL ROSARIO, MIDNIGHT TRANSFER, WINNER: “I just let him break and let him find his stride. Sometimes when you’re on the rail, you get stuck there, but I didn’t want to be in a hurry. Going to the three eighths, I just stayed where I was and it finally opened up when got to the top of the stretch. Sometimes you have to get lucky when you have the inside post position and we did. He finished up really strong and I think he can run long. I think he can do anything.”

MARTIN GARCIA, DRILL, 8-5 FAVORITE, FIFTH: “No comment.”

JOSEPH TALAMO, INCLUDE ME OUT, WINNER: “Going into the first turn, I thought I would be laying second right next to Martin Garcia, but (Joel) Rosario and (Rafael) Bejarano made an early move so I just had to ease back. After that she just ran great. Ron (Ellis) has done a great job coming back after the La Brea. She was so fresh and ready today, and full of run.”

JOE TALAMO, VAMO A GALUPIAR, WINNER: “That’s a nice mare. I had a great trip. She’s got a tremendous turn of foot. We just stayed on the rail all the way everything opened up. When she switched leads, she just exploded.”

TRAINER QUOTES

NEIL DRYSDALE, VAMO A GALUPIAR, WINNER: “She bruised something behind (explaining her absence of more than eight months). It wasn’t any big deal. She just needed time . . . It looks like she’s ready to go now. She got tired (in her first U.S. start in the Grade III Wilshire last April 30) and she wasn’t quite right. Now she’s right.

JOCKEY QUOTES

ANTONIO CASTANON, FRUMIOUS, WINNER: “You could see that the speed of the races was fast today. This race was going to be one of the fastest races today, so I just let my horse run his own race because I know he has a lot of speed. I didn’t expect to be on the lead so soon, and when I ended up there I just let my horse run.”

JOCKEY QUOTES

RAFAEL BEJARANO, NORVSKY, WINNER: “We were going really slow in the beginning and I was wondering if the pace would stay that way. So I just tried to get in close and not stay too far back. At the half-mile pole I was trying to improve my position, and when I got to the stretch my horse showed me a big kick. I knew he was going to win the race then. My horse is still learning, and I think the perfect distance for him is either a mile and one sixteenth, or a mile and an eighth. He’s always doing very good at both distances.”

COREY NAKATANI, RENEESGOTZIP, WINNER: “I’ve been getting on this horse in the morning for Pete (Miller), and she’s showed me every time what she can do. She was a little green coming to the quarter pole today. She shied and drifted out so I shook her up right there and she responded. It’s a good thing that Pete puts me to work on her because you get to know what she’s capable of doing. He’s confident in what we wanted to do with her. She’s a tremendous filly.”

JOCKEY QUOTES

RAFAEL BEJARANO, CARACORTADO, WINNER: “I knew I had a lot of horse so I didn’t want to use him too early. I just tried to follow instructions from the trainer. He told me before the race to wait, and as soon as I crossed the dirt that I would have a good turn of foot from the horse. He said not to go too early and just wait for one big run. As soon as I closed the door my horse was flying. This is the first horse that I’ve rode that has this kind of finishing speed. He showed me a big kick. It was unbelievable.”
