JULIEN LEPAROUX, SKY HIGH GAL, WINNER: “It (the pace scenario) didn’t go exactly to plan; she was sharp right away, and a little keen before the first turn. She relaxed very well on the backside though. She got a little tired today but she showed a lot of heart, tried the whole way.”

JOE TALAMO, SCARLET STRIKE, SECOND: “It was close, I was hoping we had a good (head) bob; it’s unfortunate. She handled her first time on turf great, handled it real well. We were able to get a good, ground-saving trip.

JULIEN LEPAROUX, QARAABA, WINNER: “Simon (Callaghan) told me to ride her with a lot of confidence and I did. She’s a very handy filly and she relaxed perfectly. As you could see, she won pretty easily and she had a lot left.”

GARRETT GOMEZ, MORE CHOCOLATE, THIRD: “The horse handled everything really well. She was just a little stronger than I was expecting her to be early on. I kept trying to get her to relax and get off the bridle; when she finally did we were traveling well.

VICTOR ESPINOZA, TEDDY’S PROMISE, WINNER: “I had a great trip. I had a good post outside. She’s got a lot of class. When she wants to run, she’s the best. I liked the post a lot; when she’s inside she doesn’t always like it.”

TYLER BAZE, SNOW FALL, SECOND: “I’m still getting to know this filly, it’s her first time here; she’s from back east. I’ve only been on her once in the morning, so I’m still getting to know her. She gave me what I thought she had today but that other horse was just a little too much for her.

RAFAEL BEJARANO, AVARE, WINNER: “I knew I had to try to send him because I knew the eight (Gabriel Charles) wanted to get the lead. I knew I had to take the chance. Once he (Avare) got the lead, I got him to relax and when we hit the stretch, he was off. I worked him two or three times before the race and he was just amazing. I think he loves distance and I think he could go a mile and a quarter. It’s good to be getting back. I had some bad luck and we were finishing second too many times.

EDWIN MALDONADO, COMMA TO THE TOP, WINNER: “With the speed scratching, we felt we would go for the lead and it worked out good. I felt I had a ton of horse under me at the end. The horse drifted out late, but the middle of the track was the hardest part of the track. I am most appreciative of (trainer) Peter Miller for giving me the opportunity (after Corey Nakatani took off the mount due to a spill earlier in the day). We’ve had a good day together. I got Peter two wins and a third.”

RAFAEL BEJARANO, BOOK REVIEW, WINNER: “I saw there was a lot of speed in the race and that was very good for me. I let her do whatever she felt comfortable with. I knew she was going to come running at the end, so I just waited for the right time, and it worked.

“Mr. Baffert has been a good trainer for a long time and he always gives me a good opportunity. My business has been down a little but I’m very appreciative of what he does for me.”

RAFAEL BEJARANO, SILENTIO, WINNER: “He really liked the turf today. In his last race he broke from post one and he was kind of waiting a little bit. He still ran a good race, but the way he ran today he was clear from the outside and it was much better for him. He was more relaxed in the race so that’s why he gave me a good turn of foot in the stretch.”

MIKE SMITH, BATTLE FORCE, 3-1 FAVORITE, SECOND: “He ran too good to lose. I really have to applaud the winner because he beat me today, but they both ran winning races.

GARRETT GOMEZ, JIMMY CREED, WINNER: “With these kind of races you never know what is going to happen. I knew on paper what the race might look like and which horses might show speed. When I left the gate my horse broke really well and stuck me in a place where I was very comfortable and he was traveling really comfortable. I thought I was in a fairly good spot and it was just a matter of which horse was going to kick on, so I had to make a decision on which horse to follow.

GARRETT GOMEZ, RHYTHM OF LIGHT, WINNER: “She always travels really well. She did everything like a class filly should, and she proved she was today. She was absolutely perfect about everything and traveled the last six furlongs exactly the way I wanted her to. She was never too keen or too much off the bridle and raced beautiful the whole time. When I asked her to pick up, she picked up great and came home nice. I didn’t have to ask her for too much.”

JOEL ROSARIO, LADY OF FIFTY, WINNER: “She felt good. She did everything right and was real game today. Jerry (Hollendorfer) told me not to get in her way and let her run from the gate, then to figure it out after that.”

JERRY HOLLENDORFER, LADY OF FIFTY, WINNER: “She’s better routing, if you look at her record. She’s going to be a nice filly around here this coming year.

“It was nice to have Joel (Rosario) on the horse. We love Joel. I told him to get out of the gate and get up close.
