Even if Comma to the Top wins the Santa Anita Derby on April 9, trainer Peter Miller won’t be on his cell phone making reservations for Louisville on May 7.

“The horse is doing good for the Santa Anita Derby,” Miller said. “He breezed good on Wednesday (four furlongs in :49.40 at Hollywood Park) and came out of the work good.

‘PEGASUS’ TO DRILL SATURDAY FOR SANTA ANITA DERBY

Fate plays a role for agents who have put jockeys on a Kentucky Derby winner. If Alonso Quinonez wins the Run for the Roses on May 7, agent Vince DeGregory will add another chapter in his voluminous book of racing tales that span six decades.

It’s every jockey’s fondest wish to win the Run for the Roses, and Gomez is no exception. He hopes to fill that void come May 7, when the 137th Kentucky Derby is run at Churchill Downs.

But first things first. At the moment, Gomez hasn’t committed to a Derby horse.
