BREEDERS’ CUP CLASSIC WINNER MUCHO MACHO MAN TO WORK FIVE FURLONGS TODAY BETWEEN RACES FOUR AND FIVE IN FINAL PREPARATION FOR SATURDAY’S GRADE I, $750,000 SANTA ANITA HANDICAP
ARCADIA, Calif. (March 2, 2014)—Trainer Kathy Ritvo announced Sunday morning that Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Mucho Macho Man will work five furlongs between races four and five today at Santa Anita. It is expected that Mucho Macho Man will enter the track from the quarter mile chute at the top of the stretch between 2:10 p.m. and 2:25 p.m.
Regular exercise rider Nick Petro will work the 6-year-old son of Macho Uno from the half mile pole and continue past the wire to the seven furlong marker.
Under the supervision of Ritvo, “MMM” was out for a “wrong-way” jog over the Santa Anita main track at 8:00 a.m. today under Petro and appeared to relish the conditions.
Although Santa Anita’s main track has been listed as “wet fast” the past two days due to significant rainfall, it has been upgraded to “fast” for this afternoon’s racing.
The workout will be broadcast on both HRTV and on Santa Anita’s satellite television network. Still photos will be provided immediately following the work, as will video to broadcast outlets.
Owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing and Stronach Stables, Mucho Macho Man has been assigned high weight of 124 pounds, while Breeders’ Cup Classic runner-up Will Take Charge will tote 123. Two-time Santa Anita Handicap winner Game On Dude has been assigned 122.
Entries for the 77th running of the Santa Anita Handicap will be taken Wednesday, March 5.
