ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2013)—Santa Anita’s popular 50 cent Pick 5 wager, which requires punters to select the winners of the first five races each racing day, reached new heights on Saturday, Breeders’ Cup Classic Day at Santa Anita, as a carryover of $891,813 from Breeders’ Cup Day One generated $6,438,510 in “new money,” for a record total Pick 5 pool of $7,330,323. It resulted in a payoff of $23,665.90 on 272 winning tickets.

Starting with Saturday’s first race, the $2 win mutuels were as follows: Race One, $15.60; Race Two, $12.00; Race Three, $6.60, Race Four, $66.60, and Race Five, $5.00.

Saturday’s Pick 5 sequence was comprised of the $100,000 Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes, the $100,000 Damascus Stakes, the Grade III, $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes, the Grade I, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and the Grade I, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

After scratches, 45 horses were entered to run in the Pick 5, for an average of nine runners per race.
