TOKYO CITY CUP TO BE RUN SATURDAY, MARCH 23, MARATHON FOR OLDER HORSES PART OF CULTURAL MOSAIC AS SANTA ANITA HOSTS JAPANESE COMMUNITY

ARCADIA, Calif. (March 14, 2013)—Santa Anita Park will play host to the Japanese community on Saturday, March 23, as the 18th running of the Grade III, $100,000 Tokyo City Cup for older horses at 1 ½ miles will be the centerpiece of a daylong assortment of Japanese cultural events and fare.

With first post time at 12:30 p.m., Japanese culture will be celebrated with the following activities:

--Taiko Drum performances on the Grandstand apron. L.A. Matsuri Taiko will perform after the Tokyo City Cup.

--Japanese Family Fun performances will include Sado (tea ceremony), Kado (flower arranging), Shodo (calligraphy), Shishimai (Japanese Lion Dancing), and Minyo (Japanese Folk Song).

--A Japanese Beer Garden.

--Authentic Japanese cuisine including Sushi, Okonomiyaki, Curry Rice, Japanese Tea, and more.

--New this year is Fujiyama Ichiban, who will perform an Action Hero show.
