ARCADIA, Calif. (March 8, 2013)—Santa Anita Park has announced that reigning Miss California USA, Mabelynn Capeluj, will be attending the Semi-Final round of the Stronach Group’s Ms. Racing Queen competition at the track this Sunday, March 10, as a field of 50 women compete for a top prize of $100,000—with the runner-up toreceive $50,000.
Ms. Racing Queen, to be crowned on March 24 in South Florida, will represent the Stronach Group at the Grade I Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on March 30, the Grade I Santa Anita Derby on April 6, and the Grade I Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course near Baltimore, Md., on May 18.
“We’re honored to have Mabelynn join us here on Sunday,” said Katie Abbott, Santa Anita’s Social Media Coordinator. “We had a fantastic group of girls come to Santa Anita for our first round last Sunday and the competition will only intensify with the Quarter-Final on Sunday. Having Miss California USA with us provides all of the girls an opportunity to visit with and get to know her and it brings a great deal of prestige to our event.
“It’s great to see that the Ms. Racing Queen Pageant is generating a lot of interest and we’re looking forward to Sunday!”
Following this Sunday’s competition, the field will be narrowed to 20 contestants, with each receiving a $200 wagering voucher and $1,000 in cash.
The following Sunday, March 17, Santa Anita will host the Ms. Racing Queen Final, which will produce five contestants who will travel to Gulfstream Park in South Florida to compete with five “Floridians” on March 24.
The five Finalists will each receive a $400.00 voucher and $2,000 in cash and will be flown by the Stronach Group to Gulfstream Park.
The “California vs. Florida Grand Finale” on March 24 will be televised live on HRTV and will be hosted by both Miss California USA, Mabelynn Capeluj and Miss Florida, USA, Michelle Aguirre.
The Ms. Racing Queen Pageant is open to women ages 18 to 30 who are judged in traditional areas of competition: Interview, Evening Gown, Derby Wear and SwimSuit (Fitness).
