ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 1, 2013)—Santa Anita’s popular on-line handicapping contest, “ShowVivor,” will once again be available for fans to play, free of charge, beginning this Friday, Jan. 4.

The contest will feature $5,000 in prize money, with a $3,000 award going to the top finisher. Prizes will also be awarded to the first runner-up ($1,500) and the second runner-up ($500). Participation is free and contestants will be required to select one horse per day to finish first, second or third in a race of their choice. If a player’s selection finishes lower than third, that player is eliminated for the duration of the contest.

All selections must be registered on-line no later than 10 minutes before first post time at Santa Anita.

Santa Anita Park first launched ShowVivor in January of 2007 and the contest has proven popular with thousands of fans.

“From day-one, ShowVivor has proven to be a great way for us to connect with our fans,” said Santa Anita Director of Marketing Nate Newby. “We’ve had a great response and I think everyone has had a good time with it. It’s a lot tougher to stay ‘alive’ than most people at first realize and that’s part of what makes it so challenging.”

Fans are encouraged to register for ShowVivor as soon as possible at www.santaanita.com. First post time on Friday is at 1 p.m.

In order to participate in ShowVivor, players must be registered by 12:30 p.m. this Friday. Santa Anita’s 71-day winter/spring meeting will run through April 21. Regular first post time on weekends and holidays will be 12:30 p.m. Regular first post on weekdays is 1 p.m.
