SANTA ANITA TO OFFER ALL FANS FREE WALL CALENDAR ON OPENING DAY, DEC. 26, ZENYATTA AND OTHER STAKES WINNING MARES, WITH BABIES ARE FEATURED
ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 20, 2012)—All fans attending Santa Anita on opening day, Dec. 26, will receive Santa Anita’s traditional wall calendar, free of charge, which this year features Zenyatta and other stakes winning mares and their newly arrived foals.
A striking photograph of the magnificent Zenyatta statue, which was unveiled at Santa Anita this past spring, graces the cover of the calendar which is entitled “Champion Bloodlines.”
“This year’s calendar enables our fans to look forward through the progeny of some of the best fillies and mares to ever run here at Santa Anita,” said Candace Coder Chew, Santa Anita’s Director of Print and Graphics. “From Zenyatta’s 2012 baby, a beautiful colt by Bernardini, to Balance (winner of the Grade I Las Virgenes, Grade I Santa Anita Oaks, Grade II La Canada Stakes and Grade I Santa Margarita Handicap) and her 2012 colt by Smart Strike, our fans can take note and follow these young horses as they arrive at the track and begin racing careers of their own.”
In addition to vignettes that feature horses to follow in the future, the 2013 calendar chronicles some of the best Santa Anita performances of 2012, including a stirring ground-level look at Winchell Thoroughbreds’ Tapizar and Corey Nakatani winning the Grade II San Fernando Stakes, Jim Rome’s Mizdirection, midway down the Camino Real hillside turf course en route to winning last November’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, Ron the Greek and Jose Lezcano winning the Grade I Santa Anita Handicap and Reddam Racing’s I’ll Have Another breaking from the gate and on his way to victory in the Grade I Santa Anita Derby.
The photographic action reaches a crescendo for the month of November, 2013, as Janis R. Witham’s Fort Larned out duels Mucho Macho Man to win this year’s $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.
“This year’s calendar has some of the most dynamic photography we’ve ever been able to assemble,” said Chew. “I truly believe our fans are going to love it.”
Santa Anita will offer three graded stakes on opening day: the Grade I, $300,000 Malibu, the Grade I, $300,000 La Brea and the Grade II, $150,000 Sir Beaufort. Santa Anita will also guarantee $400,000 in the Late Pick 4.
Special early first post time on opening day is 12 noon. For more information or to make reservations, visit www.santaanita.com or call (626) 574-RACE.
