NORTH HOLLYWOOD MAN TAKES HOME $1,600 COURTESY OF CASHCALL’S $1,000 TO WIN CONTEST AT SANTA ANITA ON SATURDAY, FORMER CAB DRIVER IS LONGTIME FAN

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2012)—For the third straight time this week and the eighth time since opening day, Sept. 28, CashCall’s popular $1,000 to Win Contest produced a winner in Saturday’s ninth and final race at Santa Anita.

George Ouzounian, a 75-year-old native New Yorker and resident of North Hollywood, selected eventual 3-5 favorite Turn On the Brites and Jose Valdivia to win.

“You can’t bet against the favorite in this (contest),” said Ouzounian. “They’ve been winning all the time.”

Trained by Matt Chew, Turn On the Brites won easily and paid $3.20 to win.

Ouzounian, a retired Los Angeles cab driver, has been a regular horse player for many years.

“I’ve been playing the quarter horses since I was 37. Back then, (Bob) Baffert, (D. Wayne) Lukas and (Blane) Schvaneveldt were the kings. I come out here almost every day. I never thought I’d win this. I’ve got some people here with me and they want in on it. I think I’ll buy ‘em a cup of coffee.”

CashCall’s $1,000 to Win Contest is free to enter. On-track attendees can fill out an entry blank at any admission gate and deposit it at the Thoroughbreds Center prior to seventh race post time.

Santa Anita will offer a nine-race card on Sunday, with first post time at 1 p.m.
