EL MONTE MAN MAKES CASHCALL IN FINALE, BAGS $1,600 AS 3-5 FAVORITE TAKES NIGHTCAP UNDER TALAMO

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2012)—Fernando Garcia, a 57-year-old resident of El Monte, became the seventh winner of CashCall’s $1,000 to Win Contest, bagging $1,600 as 3-5 favorite Miss Communication easily took Friday’s eighth and final race with leading rider Joe Talamo up.

“I come here to have fun, relax and have a few drinks,” said Garcia, who works as a customer service representative in L.A.’s garment industry. “I come out every Friday and sometimes on Saturdays and Sundays. I play (the CashCall Contest) whenever I come, but I never expected to win.”

Garcia said that he’d put his money to use soon. “I’m gonna get a new flat screen T.V.”

For his part, Talamo swept the late double and took Santa Anita’s nightcap for the sixth consecutive racing day. The 22-year-old Louisiana native now has 28 wins through 18 racing days, 11 clear of Rafael Bejarano in the Autumn Meet standings.

All on-track attendees aged 18 and over are eligible to play the CashCall $1,000 to Win Contest. Entry cards are available at all admission gates and must be turned in to the Thoroughbreds Club Center before the seventh race.

First post time on Saturday at Santa Anita is 1 p.m.
