SANTA ANITA TO HOST BELMONT BASH ON SATURDAY, ‘UNO MAS MARIO’ ITEMS AVAILABLE ALONG WITH LAVISH TRIPLE CROWN BUFFET IN TRACK’S FRONTRUNNER AS I’LL HAVE ANOTHER SEEKS ELUSIVE TRIPLE CROWN
ARCADIA, Calif. (June 5, 2012)—Santa Anita Park is the place to be this Saturday, as Santa Anita Derby winner I’ll Have Another seeks to become Thoroughbred racing’s first Triple Crown winner in 34 years by winning the mile and one half Belmont Stakes in New York.
“We are all at the threshold of something special,” said Santa Anita President George Haines. “This is obviously a very special horse and if he wins, it’s not only huge for the sport, but it’s huge for the Santa Anita Derby and all of us here at Santa Anita. Should he win, he would join the legendary Affirmed, who won the 1978 Santa Anita Derby, and he would thus become the 12th Triple Crown winner in history.
“Our fans are excited, our employees are excited and we’re going to put on a great show here on Saturday. If I’ll Have Another wins, I think it’s safe to say that people will remember for many years where they were at that moment in time and we certainly hope many of them will remember being right here at Santa Anita with family and friends. Win, lose or draw, it’s going to be a great day,” Haines added.
“Uno Mas Mario” tee shirts and souvenir plastic cups recognizing I’ll Have Another’s popular 25-year-old jockey, will be available while supplies last on Saturday to all FrontRunner attendees.
FrontRunner will also offer a lavish Triple Crown Buffet on Saturday. The Cost for adults is $24.95 and kids aged three to 11 are admitted for $14.95. The Triple Crown Buffet will consist of:
--Several entrees, including Basil Chicken, Shrimp, Capicola and Provolone, Blackened Angus Tri Tip Steak and Old Bay Maryland Style Salmon.
-- Yukon Gold and Red Bliss Creamer Potatoes.
--Chef’s Selection of Seasonal Vegetables.
--Caesar & Greek Vegetable Salads.
--Artisan Dinner Rolls.
--Assortment of Petite Pastries including Cookies, Bars and Brownies.
--Coffee, Iced Tea & Soft Drinks.
“FrontRunner will sell out quickly on Saturday and these commemorative items are going to go fast,” said Haines. “Mario Gutierrez has become incredibly popular and we’re all rooting for ‘One More Win’ for him and the I’ll Have Another team.”
Haines also noted that all Santa Anita Thoroughbreds Club members are entitled to receive a special “Uno Mas Mario” placard while supplies last, throughout the day at the track’s Thoroughbred’s Center on the main floor of the grandstand.
Fans are encouraged to make their Belmont Day FrontRunner reservations as soon as possible by calling Hospitality at (626) 574-6480.
Santa Anita’s admission gates open early Saturday at 8:15 a.m., as simulcast wagering will be available in the track’s Paddock Room. FrontRunner, Club House areas and Sirona’s Bar on the main floor of the grandstand, will be open at 10:15 a.m.
