ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2011)—Santa Anita Park, which got off to a rollicking start with an opening day crowd of 44,579 on Dec. 26, welcomed its 100,000th customer Saturday on day-nine of its 79-day winter/spring meeting.

Donna Davis, from the high desert city of Hesperia, was surprised to learn that she had just become the 100,000th customer as she walked through a Club House turnstile shortly before Saturday’s second race at approximately 12:50 p.m.

Davis, who was accompanied by her husband Frank and another couple, received a check from Santa Anita for $1,000 and also won a two-night stay at Treasure Island, Las Vegas.

“This is amazing,” said Davis. “We came today to attend a retirement party and this is a great way to start it off. When we were coming in and everybody started telling me that I was the 100,000th, I had no idea what was going on. I’ve been here twice before, but it’s been about 10 years ago. This place is so beautiful and we love horses, in fact we’d like to board retired racehorses some day.”

Santa Anita’s opening day crowd was the biggest since opening day 1994 and it keynoted a solid week as Santa Anita posted significant gains in all categories over the first six days of the meet.

“We’re happy to be off to a good start and we thought we’d have some fun with our 100,000th customer today,” said Santa Anita Vice President of Sales and Marketing Chris Quinn. “We want to thank all of our fans and horsemen for their support and this is a fun way for us to express our gratitude and draw attention to the fact that Santa Anita continues to be America’s premier winter racing venue.

“We’ve got a lot of exciting promotions and world-class racing in front of us and we’re looking forward to maintaining our momentum.”

Santa Anita’s 79-day meeting runs through April 22. First Post time on Sunday is 12:30 p.m. For more information, visit or call (626) 574-RACE.
