ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2011) – Home Sweet Aspen, Jenny Craig’s 3-year-old homebred daughter of Candy Ride, will be well-supported to gain her first stakes victory on Sunday when facing five rival fillies and mares in Santa Anita’s featured $65,000 Louis R. Rowan Stakes at 6 ½ furlongs on the main track.

Trained by John Sadler, Home Sweet Aspen is coming off a dominant 4 ¼ length victory in a first-condition allowance at Del Mar on Sept. 5 when she sped six furlongs over that facility’s Polytrack surface in 1:08 1/5.

Her only previous experience in a stakes race came at Churchill Downs on May 6 when Home Sweet Aspen finished second to Victoria’s Wildcat in the Grade III, $118,800 Eight Belles Stakes at seven furlongs. Joel Rosario rides the chestnut filly who has won two of five starts while finishing second three times for a return of $117,772.

Like Home Sweet Aspen, Salty Sarah will be in search of her first stakes win. Haltered for $12,500 at Hollywood Park thirteen months ago by Live Your Dreams Racing Stable, the 5-year-old Bertrando mare has become an excellent claim while in the care of trainer Bob Baffert.

She has won three of seven starts for her new connections. She missed by a nose of winning the $95,000 CERF Stakes in her last out at Del Mar on Sept. 7. Martin Garcia rides the California-bred whose overall record is 4-4-4 in 24 starts while earning $195,796.

Each of the Rowan’s four other starters has posted at least one stakes victory. Chalula One is fresh off a handy victory in the $50,000 Bangles & Beads Stakes at Fairplex last month. Church Came took the $82,000 Santa Lucia Stakes last March at Santa Anita. Madera Castana was a Group I stakes winner in her native Chile. And Mildly Offensive captured Santa Anita’s $100,000 Santa Paula Stakes in March.

The complete field for the Louis R. Rowan Stakes, with jockeys and weights in post position order: Church Camp, Joseph Talamo, 118; Salty Sarah, Martin Garcia, 118; Mildly Offensive, Rafael Bejarano, 121; Madera Castana, Hector Berrios, 118; Home Sweet Aspen, Joel Rosario, 119, and Chalula One, Martin Pedroza, 124.

The Rowan Stakes is carded as the eighth race on a nine-race program with first post at 1 p.m.
