BREEDERS' CUP TO REMAIN AT SANTA ANITA THIS YEAR
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP)—Breeders’ Cup officials say horse racing’s year-end world championships will go on as planned at Santa Anita in November despite the track’s owner filing for bankruptcy.
Breeders’ Cup president Greg Avioli said Wednesday that a Delaware bankruptcy court affirmed Oak Tree Racing Association’s lease with Santa Anita through the end of the year.
As a result, the Breeders’ Cup will be staged as planned Nov. 6-7.
Magna Entertainment Corp. filed for bankruptcy in March. The company is currently seeking approval from the bankruptcy court to auction off its properties, including Santa Anita.
If issues surrounding the bankruptcy had not been resolved, the Breeders’ Cup would have been moved to Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., already set to host in 2010.
